
The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) is pleased to be partnering with Sounds Australia to present the third edition of the AUSCAN Music Spotlight at the 25th annual Folk Alliance International Conference (FAI) in Toronto, ON from February 20– 24.
With the largest contingent of Canadian artists and companies, ECMA artists join forces to collaborate with some of the finest talent from Australia during FAI at the AUSCAN Music Spotlight Showcases held at the Delta Chelsea Hotel. For last nine years, ECMA has organized an annual Atlantic Canadian trade mission, Canadian Music. East Coast Style to the FAI Conference.
“The global folk music market, and access to it through the North American Folk Alliance Conference continues to be an area of priority for ECMA and its members,” said Shelley Nordstrom, international export manager for the ECMA. “Since 2004, we have developed a significant Atlantic Canadian footprint, annually presenting a high caliber of showcasing artists and business to business development activities to assist artists and companies expanding into new international markets. We are thrilled to continue to build on our long term partnership with Sounds Australia to present the AUSCAN Music Spotlight and feature some of the best roots and folk music from Atlantic Canada and Australia.”

The Atlantic Canadian collective will consists of more than 24 showcasing artists and groups, 15 management/ companies, organization representatives and ECMA. FAI Performance Alley showcasing artists include; Charlie A’Court, Andru Branch & Halfway Tree, Tim Chaisson, Ben Caplan & the Casual Smokers, Rose Cousins, Amelia Curran, Tanya Davis, Sherman Downey & The Silver Lining, Stephen Fearing, Dave Gunning, Mary Jane Lamond & Wendy MacIsaac, Les Hay Babies, Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys, Catherine MacLellan, Maggie & Cassie MacDonald, Old Man Luedecke, The BackYard Devils, The Dardanelles, and The Once. Other AUSCAN Music Spotlight featured artists include; Mo Kenney, Steven MacDougall, Andrew James O'Brien, Gabrielle Papillion and Kim Wempe.
Australian artists include Andy White (Upper Ferntree, VIC), Cole & Van Dijk (Brisbane QLD), Jordie Lane (Melbourne, VIC), Katie Noonan (Brisbane QLD), Richard Perso (Yackandandah), Sam Buckingham (Sydney NSW) and T-bone Shtax & The Latchikos (AU/Galway).
ECMA artists will be a part of the official FAI Performance Alley Showcases, host four evenings of AUSCAN Music Spotlight music showcases, and play host to two Songwriters in the Round showcase matinee.
The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) is a regional collaboration of people in the music industry of Atlantic Canada that fosters, develops and celebrates East Coast Music and its artists locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. The ECMA annually produces one of the top music industry events in Canada, East Coast Music Week, which includes awards, a festival, industry conference and the International Export Buyers Program. Eastlink East Coast Music Week 2013 will take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia from March 6 – 10.
SOUNDS AUSTRALIA is Australia’s music market development initiative, established to provide a cohesive and strategic platform to assist the Australian music industry access domestic and international business opportunities. SOUNDS AUSTRALIA is a joint initiative of the Australia Council and APRA|AMCOS, supported by the Federal Government together with state government agencies and peak industry associations.
