The Winning Starts Early at ECMA 2010!

Four music awards handed out prior to Sunday night's gala

(Sydney, NS) - East Coast Music Fans won't have to wait until the Bell Aliant Music Awards Gala presented by RBC to see who takes home the hardware in some categories. Prior to Sunday's SOCAN Songwriter's Circle, the East Coast Music Association will go gala early by presenting the MapleMusic Pop Recording of the Year, Destination Cape Breton Roots/Traditional Solo Recording of the Year, and Folk Recording of the Year at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion.

These exciting announcements, hosted by songstress Amy Sky, will take place at approximately 12:45 p.m. and will be followed by a tremendous line-up of East Coast songwriters, hosted by Cape Breton Grammy award-winner Gordie Sampson and featuring Amelia Curran, Coco Love Alcorn, Catherine MacLellan and Melanie Morgan. The nominees for these awards are listed below.

"These awards allow us to get a jump-start to the excitement and proud moments that we've come to expect on ECMA Sunday," said Su Hutchinson, executive director of the East Coast Music Awards. "To couple these prestigious awards with a stacked group of the East Coast songwriters really helps ECMA 2010 continue to build momentum throughout the weekend, and into Sunday night's Music Awards Gala. It also adds considerable entertainment value to those already attending our SOCAN Songwriter's Circle."

These early awards won't even be the first hardware handed out on ECMA weekend. After Friday's Industry Awards Brunch honours those behind the scenes in the East Coast music industry, the music awards will take over. On Saturday night at approximately 11:30 p.m., visit Maxwell's as the Capri Cabaret Loud Recording is presented during the Loud Stage to become ECMA 2010's first music award-winners. Big Game Hunt, Black Moor, Shelter with Thieves, The Motorleague, Uncooperative Death, and We, the Undersigned are nominated and will be honoured before fans and fellow artists.

Of course, you won't want to miss the Bell Aliant ECMA 2010 Music Awards Gala presented by RBC, where the rest of the hardware will be awarded, and Cape Breton Island's musical past will be feted and a spectacular array of performers will grace the stage.
