ECMA warms up to Charlottetown, Spring 2011!

Event will take place from April 14-17, 2011

(Sydney, NS) - The East Coast Music Awards, Festival and Conference will spring ahead in 2011. The Charlottetown 2011 ECMA event will take place from April 14-17, moving the hottest weekend in East Coast music away from the cold winter months.

As a preview of what is to come, Prince Edward Island performers will kick off the 2010 Bell Aliant ECMA Music Awards Gala presented by RBC taking place this Sunday, March 7th in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and is stacked with an array of some of P.E.I.'s best performers. Popular Island stand-up comic, Patrick Ledwell will host the half hour feature and Rose Cousins, Two Hours Traffic, Catherine MacLellan and Meaghan Blanchard will perform live as the ECMA party is handed off from one beautiful island to another. This special presentation can be viewed free of charge when Bell Aliant Brings ECMA Live to the World at www.bellaliant.net/ecma.

"The 2011 event is a homecoming of sorts, and a spring start will provide a fresh ECMA experience in Charlottetown," said Su Hutchinson, executive director of the East Coast Music Association. "We will begin the biggest evening of our ECMA 2010 weekend with a special look toward Charlottetown 2011. The talent on display in this special programming will leave a lasting impression across the globe."

Charlottetown has a much-lauded reputation for hosting big events and serves as home base for the East Coast Music Association. An event of this nature always requires a talented staff and an enthusiastic group of volunteers and ECMA 2011 event chair Campbell Webster is ready to head the task.

"The ECMA in Charlottetown 2011 will be one huge musical block party," said Webster. "Most of the 400 performances will take place within three or four blocks - a giant indoor and outdoor spring music festival. We look forward to getting started and following the tremendous efforts of the community here in Cape Breton for ECMA 2010."

Charlottetown last served as ECMA host in 2006. ECMA weekend makes the city abuzz with music and creates and estimated $3-5 million dollars in economic spin-off for the area.

"The East Coast of Canada boasts a proud musical culture and welcoming atmosphere, and Charlottetown closely guards this ECMA spirit," said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. "We've proudly hosted this event before, and the entire Island greatly anticipates another wonderful ECMA experience in April of 2011."

The East Coast Music Association organizes a weekend every year to celebrate and recognize East Coast talent. The 2010 ECMA will take place in Sydney, NS from March 4-7, 2010.

The East Coast Music Association would like to acknowledge the financial support of FACTOR and the Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage (Canada Music Fund) as well as Canada's private radio broadcasters.
