Tuesday, September 22, 2009

SYDNEY, NS – The ECMA 2010 Event Committee is pleased to announce that Dr. Eric Favaro will chair the Cape Breton Event Committee for the annual East Coast Music Awards, Festival and Conference.
Dr. Favaro, a Sydney River resident, brings a lifetime of experience to the chair position as well as to the East Coast Music Association board, having served as a music educator, author, leader and consultant at academic institutions both in Cape Breton and beyond. He holds several degrees in fields related to music, education and administrative studies, most recently receiving his doctorate in Organizational Development and Leadership from the University of Sarasota in 2004.
“It is really exciting to be able to contribute in some way to the ECMA event, with its history of success,” said Dr. Favaro. “In many ways, this is a culmination of a passion I’ve had for music and music education programs throughout my career, and I’m looking forward to being able to rekindle that passion in an area so close to my own heart.”
Dr. Favaro replaces Ian McNeil, who recently stepped down from the role, citing personal and professional reasons.
Su Hutchinson, Executive Director of the East Coast Music Association, said Favaro’s enthusiasm for music and strong leadership skills will benefit the entire event staff.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Favaro has accepted the position as Event Chair for ECMA 2010 in Cape Breton,” said Hutchinson. “Dr. Favaro’s passion for music and his community will translate into extraordinary leadership for the dedicated team members that make up the event committee and all of the volunteers and participants.”
The East Coast Music Awards, Festival & Conference is an annual event organized by the East Coast Music Association, whose mandate it is to foster, promote and celebrate East Coast music locally and globally. It showcases new artists and provides a great networking and education experience for the music industry. It also offers music fans and community members the chance to see the best live Atlantic Canadian music in local venues.
