ECMA Artists Perform at Australia’s 2012 Song Summit

(Charlottetown) - The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) is thrilled to partner with the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) and the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS) to present the "AUSCAN Music Spotlight” at the 2012 Song Summit in Sydney, Australia from May 26-28.

Launched at ECMA Week 2010 (formerly named "Sydney Meets Sydney"), the partnership initiative was established to facilitate new reciprocal business and touring / export opportunities for both Atlantic Canadian and Australian artists. Resulting from direct business during ECMA Week 2011, East Coast artists: Matt Andersen, Tim Chaisson and David Myles secured booking agent representation through Australia’s The Harbour Agency and completed a successful introductory tour and supporting product releases.

While in Moncton, New Brunswick for East Coast Music Week 2012, Australian artists Ray Beadle and Henry Wagons teamed up with an array of Canadian artists for a series of music showcases and premiered their song writing collaboration “Never Too High”, penned by Ray Beadle and Tim Chaisson.

From May 26-28, Atlantic Canadian artists Matt Andersen, Tim Chaisson and David Myles will travel to Sydney, Australia for the 2012 Song Summit, and join alongside Australian favorites, Ray Beadle and Henry Wagons in individual and collaborative performances on the “AUSCAN Musical Spotlight Circle” on Sunday, May 27 at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre in the Bayside Terrace. Prior to this event, the Song Summit along with SOCAN, ECMA and the Consulate General of Canada will host a networking reception as part of Song Summit 2012. These events coincide with an extensive follow up second tour comprised of a multitude of concert dates (May / June) for all three acts.

The 2012 Song Summit - Make Music Matter Conference and Music Market - will gather a full spectrum of the Australian music industry including local and international songwriters and music industry experts for three days of networking, educational and business sessions as well as the Song Summit LIVE - a nightly program of live music performances.

"The ‘AUSCAN Music Spotlight’ initiative is an excellent opportunity for East Coast artists to develop new markets and touring networks and is a specific example of direct business taking place from the ECMA Export Buyers Program," says Shelley Nordstrom, International Export Manager. "It has provided a reciprocal business and touring infrastructure and is extremely exciting as such artists as Matt Andersen tour with Australia sensation Ray Beadle and Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges (USA), Tim Chaisson alongside Tim Freedman, Diesel, Morgan Joanel and David Myles sharing the stage with Aussie duo Camille & Stuie. This successful model has evolved to include a collaboration partnership between Sounds Australia and ECMA at the annual Folk Alliance International Conference, featuring the “AUSCAN Music Spotlight. It is an excellent export development platform and continues to flourish to produce business opportunities and results in new markets”.

"The Song Summit is again proud to host the ‘AUSCAN Music Spotlight’. This bi-lateral export initiative is a key platform in Sounds Australia's ongoing strategy in what is for us, and our artists, a significant market. We look forward to welcoming our Canadian friends" says Sally Howland, Head of Member Services, APRA|AMCOS.

Scott Burke, ECMA Executive Director agrees fully and believes a project like the 'AUSCAN Music Spotlight’ partnership initiatives at the Australia Song Summit, East Coast Music Week and the Folk Alliance International Conference is an incredible business and showcasing platform for our members, born from a musically collaborative and innovative partnership. "We are committed to continuing to develop a longstanding relationship between our two markets which clearly demonstrates a potential for such resounding success for our artists globally."
