The Soundwaves Program at Eastlink East Coast Music Week

Eastlink East Coast Music Week is returning to Charlottetown, April 2-6, 2014 and students have an opportunity to participate! The Soundwaves Program gives the younger generation of artists a chance to be a part of the exciting action of Eastlink East Coast Music Week 2014.

ECMA is accepting submissions from young musicians for the chance to compete in the Soundwaves Battle of the Bands. From the submissions, six bands will be chosen to compete, and one will walk away with the grand prize.

On Wednesday, April 2, the beautiful Stratford Town Hall will play host to the Soundwaves Battle of the Bands, which will see the top groups compete for the grand prize:

• Studio time with the 2013 ECMA Stompin’ Tom Winner, Jon Matthews at The Sound Mill
• A Godin Guitar
• ECMW 2014 gift basket

Performer requirements:
- All performers must be under the age of 20 with at least 50% of the group enrolled in grades 7 – 12.
- Groups are required to find their own transportation to and from the event, and cover any costs associated.
- Each artist/band must have composed at least one original composition.
- All competitors must not have a professionally distributed album.
- Musicians must be able to receive time off from school for the entire day of April 2, 2014 to perform and conduct sound checks.
- Submissions must be in no later than 5:00pm on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

Competition Process:
- A total of six (6) bands will be chosen from the list of submissions and will be announced on Wednesday, March 26, 2014.
- The Battle will be judged by three (3) music industry professionals from the area.
- They will be judged on the following criteria – Musicianship, Stage Presence, Songwriting and Marketability.
- Each group will perform two (2) songs, not exceeding a 10 minute time limit.
