Patsy

PATSY GALLANT

Director’s Special Achievement

Masterful performer, flamboyant diva, Patsy Gallant has occupied the limelight for more than 65 years and has sold more than 3,000,000 albums. A native of Campbellton, NB, we owe her the great hits of the disco era of the 70s "Besoin d'amour", "Mon pays", "Sugar Daddy" and "From New York to LA ”. By the end of that decade, "The Patsy Gallant Show" achieved the highest ratings in Canada. In the 90s, her role in "Starmania" brought her eight consecutive years of packed houses and ovations. After more than thirty albums, in 2015, she produced the album "Patsy Gallant chante Piaf". In 2016, the artist filmed the documentary "Patsy", available on Crave. In 2020, she is publishing her biography “My life in technicolor”. Her new song "Mon bel indifférent" /"Around the World" is doing great on in Quebec and New Brunswick, and on a prestigious UK Charts (# 4).

Tachichi

TACHICHI - TYRONE THOMPSON

Bucky Adams Memorial Award

A Halifax hip hop legend whose resume is as superb and as big as his talent, with his fingers in everything from writing to production to video directing. Tachichi has released 19 albums to date and played hundreds of live shows across Canada and the U.S. While much of his previous catalogue has been alongside Canadian producer and DJ Moves over the last 20 years, Tachichi has also released music with just about every influential and celebrated hip hop artist from the land of the maple leaf, including Buck 65, Classified, Quake Matthews, Ghettosocks, Skratch Bastid, Snak the Ripper, and countless others.

CUTTING CREW (KEVIN MACMICHAEL)

Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award

An amazing talent Kevin McMichael was recognized for his achievements including the international success he had with the Cutting Crew in 1990.

Kevin Scott MacMichael (7 November 1951 – 31 December 2002) was a Canadian guitarist, songwriter and record producer, best known for being a member of the 1980s UK-based pop-rock band, Cutting Crew, who had a number-one hit in 1987 with "(I Just) Died in Your Arms". Cutting Crew was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1988.

Grenier

LE GRENIER MUSIQUE - CAROL DOUCET

Industry Builder Award

Since twenty years, Le Grenier musique is a music career management company, booking shows, financing music projects, managing music editions, press relations, creating shows and is also a label (about 30 releases). The owner Carol Doucet and her team work with about fifteen artists and groups, mainly from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island (with a nod to the Gaspé and Louisiana), on Canadian, American and European territories.

Le Grenier musique is one of the most important artist agencies in French Canada outside of Quebec. Le Grenier has supported many of today's best known artists and contributed to the Lisa LeBlanc, Les Hay Babies, Caroline Savoie, Pascal Lejeune, Menoncle Jason, Joseph Edgar, Joey Robin Haché, Simon Daniel, Cy, Chloé Breault, Jacques Surette, Chloé Breault, Émilie Landry etc. On the other hand, Le Grenier musique has greatly contributed to the development of Acadian artists at the international level.

YVETTE LORRAINE

Musician’s Achievement Award

Yvette Lorraine is a classically trained soprano and pop/soul singer-songwriter from Corner Brook, Newfoundland who draws inspiration from her lived experience in the world. Growing up, her mother and father filled the house with music, and her family was known to host and billet musicians from all over the world, exposing Yvette to countless, diverse musical experiences from a young age. Studying poetry and classical music from an early age, she immersed herself in four different languages and travelled to Vancouver, Boston, and Italy performing opera. Despite her love for classical music, Yvette was inspired to write and work as an artist in the heart of Toronto and often Los Angeles, California. Excited to be releasing her new project rooted in NFLD story-telling tradition, Yvette’s latest single “WHERE DID YOU GO” is a blend of pop & soul now charting on CBC MUSIC’S TOP 20 for the last three weeks.

Buddy

BUDDY MACDONALD

Esteemed Cape Breton singer-songwriter Buddy MacDonald has been entertaining audiences for more than 45 years. He was exposed at an early age to the singing and storytelling of some of the great singers of his native Island. Much of his songwriting is still influenced by this style that he was so familiar with as a young boy on the North Shore, and his songs have been performed and recorded by artists around the world. Buddy has entertained audiences throughout Canada, the United States, Germany, Scotland and the Scandinavian countries, performing as a solo act and in different combinations with other musicians from Cape Breton including Natalie MacMaster, Howie MacDonald, Ashley MacIsaac, Dave MacIsaac, and John Allan Cameron among many others. Since Celtic Colours started in 1997, Buddy has been the host of the late night Festival Club, and has performed all over the Island with musicians from all over the world including Scotland’s Dougie MacLean and Archie Fisher, and Ireland’s Tommy Makem and Michael Black. Whether in a small country hall, pub, festival or concert theatre, Buddy’s love of writing, singing and entertaining comes across to bridge the gap between performer and listener.

JEAN SURETTE

Jean Surette is the Executive Director of Music·Musique NB (MNB) since 2009. He holds a Bachelor of Music, with a specialization in interpretation, from the Université de Moncton and he is the drummer for the newly-formed jazz-rock group Ümlab. He serves on the boards of the Alliance nationale de l’industrie musicale (ANIM), Musicaction, the Canadian Council of Music Industry Associations (CCMIA), and on the National Advisory Board of FACTOR.

He is happy father of Flavie and Éloi, and the lucky husband of Amélie Gosselin.

Gordon

GORDON QUINTON

Acoustic guitarist/composer Gordon Quinton was born in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador and now lives in St. John’s. An innovative fingerpicking and flatpicking guitar stylist, he specializes in original compositions and arrangements of traditional and contemporary folk music. As a veteran artist participating in the province’s cultural life, Gordon today continues on his chosen path of musical exploration and expression, composing, performing and recording as a soloist and with others.

Charles Austin is a musician, producer, recording engineer, and studio owner based in Halifax, NS. A founding member of the revered 90s indie rock act The Super Friendz, his studios - Ultramagnetic Studios, Echo Chamber, and Ocean Floor - have fostered continuous waves of East Coast talent for more than 20 years. Working with a broad range of musicians - from emerging acts like Walrus and Devarrow to internationally acclaimed artists such as Nap Eyes, Joel Plaskett, and Alvvays’ Molly Rankin - Charles’ studios have churned out more than 250 recordings since 1998. An in-demand musician, Charles has also been part of many heralded acts such as The Lodge, Neuseiland, Aqua Alta, and Psychic Fair, and has also been a frequent collaborator with artists such as Buck 65 and Al Tuck.

Scott Parsons is a multi-disciplined Island musician who has consistently utilized his accomplishments to enrich both himself and his community. His involvement with theater, film, radio and television has sparked an artistic creativity that carries over to his work with disabled and high-priority youth. Scott’s body of work spans nearly five decades and he has played too many benefits, bars and small venues to be named. His folk festival appearances have included the Mariposa Folk Festival (Toronto), Winnipeg Folk Festival, Calgary Folk Festival, Vancouver Folk Festival, the Islands Folk Festival (Vancouver Island), Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, Deep Roots Festival (Wolfville, NS), the Wymarsh Festival (Ontario), Seattle Folklife Fair, Montreal Celtic Festival, Gene MacLellan Song Festival (PEI), PEI Jazz and Blues Festival, and the Stan Rogers Festival.
