EAST COAST MUSIC AWARDS: FESTIVAL & CONFERENCE TAKES PLACE MAY 4 - 8, 2022

  • SUBMISSIONS OPEN: September 13, 2021 at 11:59 AM ADT
  • SUBMISSIONS CLOSE: October 15, 2021 at 11:59 PM ADT

ELIGIBILITY PERIOD FOR MUSIC & INDUSTRY AWARDS

  • June 1, 2020 - October 8, 2021 (all awards except for the six categories listed below)

  • June 1, 2019 - October 8, 2021
    • African Canadian Artist of the Year, Blues Recording of the Year, Children’s Entertainer of the Year, Indigenous Artist of the Year, R&B/Soul Recording of the Year, Global Music Recording of the Year

Recording(s) must be released within the eligibility period outlined.

Note: there is no eligibility for Honourary Award nomination submissions.

Pre-orders:

Recordings will also qualify if they are available for pre-order online no

later than October 8, 2021. Pre-ordered recordings (digital and/or physical copies)

must be available by December 31, 2021. ECMA may request proof of transaction.

  • June 1, 2018 - May 8, 2022

WHY APPLY FOR ECMAS 2022?

  • ECMA is a well-known and reputable brand internationally. Receiving an ECMA award nomination is a prestigious accomplishment.

  • Get in front of domestic and international delegates/export buyers who are recruited and invited to attend the ECMA Conference and Showcases.

  • Grow your fan base by performing in front of thousands of music lovers.

  • In 2021, ECMA spent over $100,000 that went directly to artists. It pays to play!

  • Get business done with one-on-one meetings and other networking/business opportunities as part of the ECMA Conference and Export programs. In 2019, ECMAs last full-sized event before COVID-19, over 1045 meetings were scheduled between artists and national/international industry professionals. Many Artists confirmed booking agent signings; festival/show bookings; sync and licensing deals; and much more!

HOW TO APPLY TO ECMAS 2022?

All submissions will be accepted until October 8, 2021 by 11:59 PM ADT online at ecma.awardstage.com.

  1. Before beginning your submission, ensure you have a strong internet/network connection, your browser is up-to-date and is supported. Recommended browsers include: Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari.

  2. Register your account on AwardStage. If you have already registered in previous years you can use your same login information, upon original set-up, in order to begin your 2022 application!

  3. Find the application form you need once logged in.

  4. Begin your application! Don’t forget to save your application regularly while completing.

SUBMISSIONS PRICING

All music award submissions cost $20 CAD (with the exception of the free categories listed below), $20 CAD to submit to the Export Buyers Showcase Series, and $15 CAD to submit to the Breakout Stage, Rising Star Stage, and Genre-Based Showcasing.

It is free to submit to:

African Canadian Artist of the Year / Indigenous Artist of the Year

All Industry Awards / All Honorary Awards

NOTE: Applicants must be ECMA members in good standing, and will be invoiced directly from ECMA if membership is not in good standing.

ELIGIBILITY & JURY PROCESS
Check to make sure you’re eligible to apply by referring to the eligibility checklists below and the ECMA manuals basic screening requirements and category-specific eligibility criteria! For full information please refer to the the submission manuals.

ECMA 2022 SUBMISSION MANUALS

SHOWCASING ELIGIBILITY CHECKLIST:

❒Must be Atlantic Canadian (please see terms and definitions section for more information)

❒Must be an ECMA Member in good standing

❒Must only submit for one genre-specific category for each “recording”

❒Recording(s) must be commercially released within the eligibility period

❒50% of the release must be of previously unreleased cuts

❒Must have proof of release date from a distributor, manufacturing invoice, and/or a record company, OR show proof that the release is available through 3 alternate sources of professional distribution (see full definition in manual)

❒Must meet stage category eligibility requirements


INDUSTRY AWARDS ELIGIBILITY CHECKLIST:

❒Candidates must reside and work in Atlantic Canada; in the case of a company, a staffed office registered as a business in Atlantic Canada is necessary to be eligible.

❒A company submitting a recording/compilation album must meet the definition of Atlantic Canadian and hold a business number in Atlantic Canada

❒Must meet industry category eligibility requirements

❒Must be an ECMA Member in good standing

❒Submissions must include a short biography and supporting documentation (if applicable) for each submission, listing their accomplishments and contributions over the eligibility period. Failure to submit the required material will result in an insufficient submission and thus will be disqualified.


MUSIC AWARDS ELIGIBILITY CHECKLIST:

(Note eligibility requirements for Fans’ Choice Categories are separate from this list)

❒Must be Atlantic Canadian

  • If submitting as a group/band, at least 50% of members must be Atlantic Canadian; defined as a person who was either born in Atlantic Canada or a person who has lived in Atlantic Canada within the ECMA eligibility periods.

❒Must be an ECMA Member in good standing

❒Must only submit for one genre-specific category for each “recording”

❒The same recording must not be nominated more than once in the same category, if it was submitted in a previous year and still falls within the eligibility period

❒Recording(s) must be commercially released within the eligibility period outlined

❒Requires a full length recording (min 5 tracks or 15 mins),

EXCEPT for (please see the category specific eligibility requirements for more information on recording requirements):

African Canadian Artist of the Year | Classical Composer of the Year | Dance Recording of the Year | Electronic Recording of the Year | Francophone Recording of the Year | Loud Recording of the Year | Indigenous Artist of the Year | Rap/Hip-Hop Recording of the Year | R&B/Soul Recording of the Year | Rising Star Recording of the Year | Song of the Year | Songwriter of the Year

Please note: Eligible singles for submission are limited to one recording submission per category for consideration per applicant/artist.

❒Open to ALL Atlantic Canadian Artists, regardless of eligible releases

❒Must be an ECMA Member in good standing

❒Must meet eligibility requirements of this category

Fans’ Choice Video of the Year:

❒Must be Atlantic Canadian (please see definition in manual)

❒Must be an ECMA Member in good standing

❒The same video must not be nominated more than once in the same category, if it was submitted a previous year and still falls within the eligibility period

❒Video(s) must be released within the eligibility period

❒Must meet eligibility requirements of this category


JURYING PROCESS

All East Coast Music Awards & Showcases are fully juried by qualified regional, national, and international industry professionals. Jury Members evaluate applications, and score based on a set criteria / rubric (please see jury criteria section for more information).

  • After being juried, the nominees are chosen based on the 5 highest-scoring submissions per category. In the case of a tie, there may be more than five (5) nominees per category.

  • ECMA has 2 Fans’ Choice categories that are voted on by the public. These awards are first submitted for jurying and then shared with the public for voting.

    NOTE: No other awards are submitted for voting.

  • To be considered for awards and showcasing, an application must be submitted through the official application process.

The East Coast Music Association is soliciting its members and the general public for submissions for the 2022 Honorary Awards. A committee of the ECMA Board of Directors will determine the honorary award recipients.
