John’s artistic collaborations vary widely across the disciplines of recording, design and performance. As a producer/recording engineer Adams has worked with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Jane Bunnett, Mathieu Gaudet, Yo Yo Ma, Old Man Luedecke, James Ehnes and The Northern Pikes. His recording work has garnered him multiple JUNO/ECMA Awards and his sound designs have been commissioned by the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Mocean Dance, Princess Productions and Barishnykov’s White Oak Dance Project.
A specialist in experimental electronic music, Adams has had the privilege of working with some of the great musical pioneers of our time including John Cage, Takehisa Kosugi, David Tudor and Pauline Oliveros. Adams worked with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company from 1991-96. He has also performed with Composers Inside Electronics, EHRES (Oliveros, Ione, Adams) and suddenly LISTEN music. From 2007-09 Adams was the Senior Recording Engineer at The Banff Centre.
In 2011 Adams moved his studio, Stonehouse Sound to a rural location just outside of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. Since then he has embraced the rich music culture around him and has become a critical participant in many projects, big and small around the Atlantic Canadian region.
