Ryan Brown is a multi-instrumentalist, lifelong band dude and accidental educator currently based in Saint John, NB. In the early part of this century, he pursued a degree in jazz drumming and spent a decade touring and recording with Halifax indie band Glory Glory. He’s played festivals in the UK and Germany, recorded in NYC with a Grammy-nominated producer and stood on the side of the road while his bandmate used a hockey stick to bend back their exploded muffler (which destroyed their tour’s profit margin) so it would stop scraping the road and they could keep driving to their next show. Which they played to an empty venue. The drummer is classically the hustler in the band, and Ryan was no exception. After they split up, he started the podcast “HITMAKERS”, interviewing drummers from Botfly to Black Flag and beyond. Since relocating to Saint John in 2018, he parlayed the skills he learned on the job (and at his many side gigs as drum teacher, barista, record store clerk, box office attendant, DJ etc) into his current role as operations manager at InterAction School of Performing Arts.

He remains quite an active gigging musician, both as a sideman and with his own project Sunnyside Uppers. He’s learning to embrace downtime (and at the time of this writing, is working during his vacation).
