Samara is an Acadian mother, organiser and cultural worker from Moncton, New Brunswick, Mi’kma’ki. She has worked with international arts organizations for over two decades, directing interdisciplinary, intergenerational, and international programs, with a focus on documentary film. She served as Executive Director of The Flaherty from 2021-2025, and previously directed, edited, and was a sound recordist on films while working for film festivals in Canada, Germany, Brazil and the US. She holds a PhD in Communications and Cultural Studies; her mother tongues are English and French. She lives in rural Nova Scotia with her family.

Samara est une mère acadienne, organisatrice et travailleuse culturelle originaire de Moncton, au Nouveau-Brunswick, et appartenant à la nation Mi’kma’ki. Depuis plus de vingt ans, elle collabore avec des organismes artistiques internationaux dirigeant des programmes interdisciplinaires, intergénérationnels et internationaux, notamment dans le domaine du film documentaire. Elle a été directrice générale du Flaherty de 2021 à 2025 et a auparavant travaillé comme réalisatrice, monteuse et ingénieure du son pour des festivals de cinéma au Canada, en Allemagne, au Brésil et aux États-Unis. Titulaire d’un doctorat en communication et études culturelles, elle est bilingue anglais-français. Elle vit en milieu rural en Nouvelle-Écosse avec sa famille.
