April is an Indigenous artist from Cape Breton, NS, living in Antigonish with her husband and daughter. Unlike most East Coast artists with years of gigging under their belt, April is brand new to the music scene in every aspect. In 2018, after spending years playing cover songs and sharing on social media, she decided to try her hand at songwriting, and by 2020 she contacted Juno-nominated and multi-ECMA winner J.P. Cormier to record a songwriting demo. With help from crowdfunding and Canada Council for the Arts, she wound up recording a full-length album of original songs. The result is a mix of folk and contemporary, with songs ranging from soft ballads like "Still Not Over You" to catchy toe-tappers like "The Other Side of Me" and "The Ghost of You". J.P.s multi-instrumental talents shine through with a bit of East Coast flavor on tracks like I Do and the haunting The Way of The Sea. It is a collection of some of her best work so far, and she hopes it will one day help pave the way to becoming a songwriter. Her album is now available on all streaming platforms.
