Blending the aggression of metal, the energy of nu metal, and the sour rawness of punk rock, Sonic Detour sounds like a rusty transmission kicking into high gear. And it works. Their self-titled debut EP, full of jagged guitar riffs and infectious hooks, stretches the limits of genre while navigating seamlessly through songs that can be unapologetically ferocious, brazenly provocative, and sometimes even heartfelt.
Sonic Detour is a sextet consisting of three childhood friends, Jeff Andrusyk (drums), Andrew Clifford (guitar), and Jason Crowley (bass), along with Marcus Marcial (lead guitar), Goose Jenkly (vocals), and Joshua Paul (DJ), known publicly as DJ Demi.
After playing a number of live shows in late 2019 and early 2020, the band used the downtime brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic to record their seven song, debut EP, which has gone on to be nominated for a 2021 ECMA (Loud Recording of the Year). The band has also been nominated for three Local FM Music Awards: Best New Artist, Best Song (“Breathe Out”), and Best Music Video (“Rise Up”). Meanwhile, the song “Breathe Out” spent several weeks on Sackville, Nova Scotia’s CIOE 97.5 Community Radio's Top 30 chart, ultimately reaching #4.
Currently, Sonic Detour is aggressively promoting their self-titled EP, both online and live, while also fine-tuning the material that will follow it later in the year. The EP can be found on all major streaming platforms, and is available on CD at most local record stores.
