
Fiona Black is the founding Director of Programming for the BlueShore Centre for the Performing Arts at Capilano University. For the past 28 years, she has produced and programmed the Cap Jazz Series, Cap Global Roots Series and "North Shore Jazz", a satellite series presented in partnership with the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. In addition, Fiona is a guest curator at the Kay Meek Arts Centre for two of their non-classical music series (Amplify & Cabaret). In March 2023, Fiona joined the Vancouver Folk Festival Board and stepped up to program and execute the 2023 VFMF edition. This proved very successful leaving the festival in good shape for 2024 with a positive outlook for its future. In September 2023, Fiona was hired as the new Artistic Director for VFMF.
The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is a Canadian cultural institution. It is a unique community-based celebration internationally renowned for presenting the finest traditional and contemporary folk and roots music from around the world. Now in its 47th year, the multistage festival continues to be one of the city’s most beloved, enjoyed, and respected events. VFMF 2025 takes place July 18-20 in beautiful Jericho Beach Park.
