Position: Director of Programming/Artistic Director
Company: BlueShore at CapU & Vancouver Folk Music Festival - Vancouver, BC, Canada
Fiona Black is the founding Director of Programming for the BlueShore Centre for the Performing Arts at Capilano University. For the past 27 years, she has produced and programmed three of the University’s signature series, the Cap Jazz Series, Cap Global Roots Series and Cap Speaker Series plus "North Shore Jazz", a satellite series presented on Vancouver’s North Shore in partnership with the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. In addition, Fiona is a guest curator at the Kay Meek Arts Centre for two of their non-classical music series (Amplify & Cabaret). In March 2023, Fiona joined the Vancouver Folk Festival Board and stepped up to program the 2023 VFMF edition under challenging circumstances of a very short time-frame to book acts, as well as budget uncertainty and issues with public confidence. The 2023 VFMF edition ended up being a very successful event leaving the troubled festival in good shape for 2024 with a more positive outlook for its future. In September 2023, Fiona was hired as the new Artistic Director for VFMF.
