ECMA unveils acts for SOCAN Songwriters’ Circle
Multiple ECMA and Juno Award-winning rapper Classified joins the 2018 East Coast Music Awards Show for a special debut performance of his new single “Powerless” on Thursday, May 03 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, NS.
The song undertakes themes of abuse, sexual assault, and missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
“This one is very important to me,” says Classified, aka Luke Boyd. “‘Powerless’ is a combination of a few different true stories, which have been shared with me either face to face or through direct messages on Facebook and Instagram.”
Earlier this year, Classified shot a video for the track with Grammy-nominated director Andy Hines that features Mi’kmaq drummers and dancers.
Classified is a bonafide hitmaker, producer, and rapper who has long been making waves at home and abroad with his trademark style and sound. With 15 albums under his belt and a slew of chart-topping singles including “Inner Ninja” and “No Pressure,” Classified is undoubtedly one of the country’s biggest stars.
The 30th anniversary of the East Coast Music Awards Show is hosted by renowned comedian and actor Jonathan Torrens and also features performances by Sloan, Measha Brueggergosman, Joel Plaskett, Rose Cousins, The East Pointers, Port Cities, The Once, The Barra MacNeils, Universal Soul, Les Hay Babies, City Natives, KINLEY, Quake Matthews, and Makayla Lynn. 2018 SOCAN Songwriters’ Circle Performers
The ECMA is excited to announce that Adam Baldwin, Reeny Smith, Rose Cousins, Jenn Grant, Carleton Stone (Port Cities), and Lennie Gallant are the artists participating in 2018 SOCAN Songwriters’ Circle. Hosted by legendary Newfoundland performer Alan Doyle, the event takes place on Sunday, May 6 at 2:30pm in the Schooner Room at Casino Nova Scotia.

Le rappeur Classified, récipiendaire de multiples prix de la musique de la côte Est et prix Juno, se joindra au Spectacle de remise des Prix de musique de la côte Est 2018 pour une performance débutant de son nouvel extrait « Powerless » le jeudi 3 mai au Scotiabank Centre à Halifax, N.-É.
La chanson aborde des thèmes d'abus, d'agression sexuelle et de femmes et de filles autochtones disparues et assassinées.
« Cette chanson est très important pour moi, » affirme Classified, alias Luke Boyd. « ‘Powerless’ est une combinaison de quelques histoires vraies qui ont été partagées avec moi soit face à face ou par des messages directs sur Facebook et Instagram. »
Au début de l'année, Classified a réalisé une vidéo pour la chanson avec Andy Hines, un réalisateur finaliste aux Grammy Awards, qui met en vedette des percussionnistes et des danseurs Mi'kmaq.
