(Halifax, NS) – The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) is pleased to announce the second annual ECMA All-Star Charity Basketball Game on Wednesday, May 1 at 6 p.m. at the McMillan Centre for Community Engagement at Holland College (323 Grafton Street) in Charlottetown.

This year’s game is in support of the PEI-based Oscar Waugh Friends Foundation Fund, an organization established at the Community Foundation of PEI to honour the life of Oscar Waugh, an avid basketball fan who sadly passed away in 2023 after an 18-month battle with cancer. Created as a legacy for Oscar, the fund helps other PEI children with cancer offset expenses related to travel, treatment or equipment needed at home. A fun, friendly competition, the ECMA All-Star Charity Basketball Game will see two teams of musicians, industry professionals, basketball players, and other community members vie for the title of 2024 ECMA All-Star Basketball Champions. East Coast musicians tying up their sneakers include, One8Tea, Harmony Adesola (HARMZ), Mark Manning (Rum Ragged), Tim Hatcher (Good Dear Good), Mike Ryan (The Town Heroes), Keith Mullins, Kayla Borden, Wave Lord, Maje and more. Coaching the teams is the Mayor of Charlottetown, Philip Brown, and Ocean 100’s Morning Show Host, Jill Chandler.

"As someone who has grown up in a musical family and also played basketball at the provincial level, it was clear to me those two things went hand in hand,” says Julien Matwawana, Co-Chair of the ECMA All-Star Committee and Executive Director of the African Nova Scotian Music Association (ANSMA). “We hope everyone can come out to watch some of your favourite local artists and community personalities shoot some hoops for this important cause."

"As we gear up for the second annual ECMA All-Star Charity Basketball Game, the excitement is palpable,” says Shannon Parlee, Co-Chair of the ECMA All-Star Committee. “Basketball and music have always been intertwined in my life. From the rhythm of the court to the beat of the ball, they share a common language. Last year, we witnessed the birth of this incredible event, and it was a great success. Now, as we step into year two, our mission remains unwavering: to support a fantastic cause. Together, we’ll create a harmonious symphony on the court, all while raising funds to honour Oscar.”

The ECMA All-Star Charity Basketball Game is free to attend and open to all ages. Donations are encouraged in support of the Oscar Waugh Friends Foundation Fund. Donations can be made in-person at the game or online HERE.
